Azoospermia

What is azoospermia?

Azoospermia is the condition where no sperm is present in the semen due to various reasons. In individuals with azoospermia, semen analysis reveals the absence of live sperm cells, and only fluids from the prostatic region are present in the male partner. The inability to find sperm capable of fertilizing an egg is a cause of infertility. However, thanks to advanced technology, azoospermia is no longer a barrier for men aspiring to become fathers. Even in cases where sperm production is absent, sperm production in small tube-like structures within the testicular tissue continues at different stages. For prospective fathers from whom sperm cannot be obtained through natural methods, sperm can be obtained through the Micro-TESE method.

What are the causes of azoospermia?

Azoospermia, the absence of any live sperm cell in males, can have various causes.

  • Immunological reasons (presence of substances called antibodies that develop against sperm cells and eliminate them)
  • Genetic disorders
  • Structural blockages
  • Hormonal disorders and deficiencies
  • Cryptorchidism (undescended testicle)
  • Testicular infections, testicular tumors...

How is azoospermia treated?

With the Micro-TESE method, tissue samples are taken from at least four different points of both testicles under a microscope, and the obtained live sperm cells are frozen. These frozen sperm cells, when thawed, are transferred to the female partner at the most appropriate time during the treatment process, allowing them to fulfill their dream of having a baby.

A normal-shaped, healthy sperm is necessary for fertilizing an egg. Therefore, the Sperm Test (Semen Analysis) is crucial in calculating and planning all the dynamics of personalized treatment. Problems with the number and motility of obtained sperm can be treated with medical methods. If morphological abnormalities are detected in the obtained sperm, Genetic Diagnosis Test can be used to select healthy sperm. The "Microchip Application," also known as Chip Baby, can be used to select the highest quality sperm, increasing the chance of pregnancy.
